Silk Merchants of Bengaluru City usually would concentrate on local market, but late D. C. Shankarnarayanappa was an exporter of Silk fabrics to USA and European countries.

Late D C ShankarNarayanappa
This was achieved with determination and pursuance born to a Devanga family whose sole economic empowerment was weaving in Bangalore.
Just like the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, late D C Shankarnarayanappa commenced a weaving factory in the year 1965, with guidance and assistance from textiles entrepreneur late A Lakshmi Naryan of Janardhana Silk House, Bengaluru.
In a span of few years his fabrics were exported across the world through his newly created firm Dattatreya Silk Exports, Cubbonpet, Bengaluru. This firm created a name in the Textiles market that was slowly being dominated by Rajasthani entrepreneurs.
Late D C Shankarnarayanappa contemplated that he must give something back to the community that he is from. He was elected as President of Andhra Devanga Sangha Gandhinagar Bengaluru for two terms improving the facilities and services for members and even today he is remembered for his contributions.
In 1998 when our community conducted the All India Devanga conference in Bengaluru, he was the Treasurer of the organizing committee.
For his contributions of uplifting our community's aspirations, he was given a title 'Devanga Kula Rathna' by Sri Sri Sri Dayanandapuri Mahaswami our community's spiritual guru.
Late D C Shankarnarayanappa was associated with many institutions of our community. He is particularly remembered for his services at Chikka Annamma Gudi Devasthana, and Badavara Balaga.
He provided scholarship to mediterious students, and social welfare initiatives through his foundation Samaj Vikra Vidhya.
Today his family members are carrying the business enterprises which he created. We hope his descendants would emilate his services to society and our community.
"The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity."
