Forgotten Silk Merchants Of Bangalore City: Part 07
What is common with N Dasappa Hospital, Silver Jubilee Park Road, Bengaluru with Silk Merchants Of Bengaluru?
Late N Dasappa's family migrated to Bangalore City from DoddaThaekalavatti a village which is 12kms from Srirampura in Hosdurga taluk Karnataka in seeking better economic opportunities.
Any migrant would strive to become an entrepreneur, improving his or her economic conditions just like how numerous chisels hits from a master sculptor's hammer creating a masterpiece.
Late N Dasappa in 1913 set up a Silk and Sarees shop known as Shankari Mahalaxmi Hall in Chickpet, Bengaluru, which is still functioning today as testimony of his entrepreneurship.
Sankari Mahalaxmi Hall has a unique distinction among Bengaluru's Silk Sarees Shops as one and only centenary shop in Chickpet, and that credit goes to his descendants.
Just after independence from the British colonial government our country was facing many issues and one was hospitals for pre and post maternity for women.
This issue was resolved by late N Dasappa by contributing his personal funds to Bangalore City Municipality for setting up a maternity Hospital which was named after him and his wife 'Tirumaalamma N Dasappa Hospital' which is situated next Canara Bank's head office near Bengaluru's Town Hall.
In recognition of his contributions towards society the then Maharaja of Mysore honoured him with a title of 'Dharama Prakash'.
According to our Sanatana Dharma one must not forget his roots of origin. Late N Dasappa whose forefathers had a spiritual bond with lord Anjaneya of Somsandra which is a village in Hosdurga taluk, along with fellow devotees renovated temple with better choultry facilities for devotees.
In his quest of helping people in performing marriages he constructed a marriage choultry which is known as N.Dasappa Kalyana Mandir situated in Gavipuram, Kempegowda Nagar, Bengaluru.
In this compound there are few graves of N Dasappa's family members, one of which is the mother of my maternal grandfather Late Shetty Venkataramanappa.
"We would like his descendants to continue his achievements as a Silk Merchant and replicate his Philanthropist contributions to our society."
"The line between winning and losing is very thin, and wins give you prestige, stability, and continuity."
