Nostril Dominance: Energy in the Nostrils.
According to the Hatha Yoga, life radiates within us in streams of energy called nadis.
The central axis of these nadis is the spine, from where they spread like the limbs and shoots of a densely branching tree.
In yoga there is a emphasis on the upsurge of flowing energy within these nadis is called svarodaya,
Through the practices of svara yoga, you can learn to be aware of the presence of these streams of energy.
The nadi ending in the right nostril is called pingala. The nadi ending in the left nostril is called ida. The central nadi, sushumna, ends at the point between the nostrils where the nasal septum joins the upper lip.
We inhale through our nostrils; but if we observe mindfully one of the nostrils may be more active than the other one.
How to figure it out?
The rate and the ease of inhalation and exhalation can help you decide which of your nostrils is the active one.
While imbalance in any of the twin-like organs is never a good sign, a yoga practitioner can share certain points that it would reflect on our personalities, based on the dominance and repressive nature of the nostrils and suggests practicing yoga to maintain a balance between them.
This is satvic.yoga, the activeness of the nostril can help determine which characteristics are dominant in an individual.
The left nostril or the Ida Nadi - feminine nature, creativity, intuitive, restful, introverted, nurturing, receptive, sensitive, artistic and contemplative. It is said that an imbalanced left nostril can lead to passivity, self doubt and poor self control.
The right nostril, also known as the Pingala Nadi,- masculine nature, active, intellectualism, passionate, extrovert nature, logical thinking, assertiveness, straightforward, high energy and a good digestion.
When a person's breathing is disturbed it will be difficult for him or her to carry on with regular activities. It is therefore very essential to treat the breathing issues at the earliest
To lead a fulfilling life, both nostrils should be balanced, this would power our life force and allow us to use our wisdom while being active.
"Keep your eyes on the horizon and your nose to the wind."
