Forgotten Silk Merchants of Bangalore City- Part 02

Since the beginning of the 20th century and the relaxation of norms by the Britishers, enabled our community's entrepreneurs to open silk and sarees Shops in Bangalore City.

Unfortunately today's generations lack information about our community's past hence this blog is to appreciate our community's past entrepreneurs.

           Late Dodda Arasappa

From this environment Late Dodda Arasappa along with his brother Late Chikka Arasappa demonstrated that our community's businessman could be like today's Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata etc in the 1940s

Late Dodda Arasappa in collaboration with SeetaLakshmi Hall famous for Mrsore Silks and Sarees, Chickpet Bangalore City ,set up weaving factories across Bangalore to manufacture designer Silk sarees which attracted then top film stars from Bombay, Hyderabad, Madras etc .

Subsequently he transferred himself as silk merchant by setting up a shop known as Sri Srinivasa Textiles.

Late Dodda Arasappa was elected as president of numerous institutions and societies but his services to Devanga Sangha, Devanga Hostel Road Bengaluru as it's president helped to modernization the facilities that were being provided to members of the Sangha.

Late Dodda Arasappa was unique in our community for being both silk fabrics manufacturers and Silk merchant.

Few friends may recall that the Bangalore turf club used to conduct a invitation horse race for D Arasappa Memorial Cup.

Unfortunately today no one in this family are Silk Merchants, could we expect some of young generations today to emulate there forefathers ?

"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail."
