Forgotten Silk Merchants of Bangalore City- Part 01
You may recall K G Circle, K G Road, Majestic Bengaluru it's appearances have changed several times since 1970s.
In the centre of the circle is a temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva know as Sri Bhakta markandeya Temple this is associated with our people.
This temple is managed by descendants of Late Shetty Venkatachala Bengaluru.
Devanga families in Bengaluru were known for being well known Silk Merchants between the decades 1920s to 1980s
Unfortunately today's generations lack information about our community's past hence this blog is to appreciated our community's past entrepreneurship.
Late Shetty Venkatachala children: Late S GaviRangappa, and Late S Venkataramanappa, established Mahadeva Hall a silk shop in Chickpet Bengaluru. Which had extensive business interests in Kanchi and Chennai.
Late S G Venkatesh 1st son of late S GaviRangappa established in 1940s shop known as Bangalore Silk House which was well-known for quality Silk fabrics and was situated on Sri Devara Dasmayayya Road Bengaluru.
Second Son of late S GaviRangappa Sri S G Nagaraju is known for manufacturing quality Silk fabrics and has been associated with various institutions of our community.
Unfortunately today no one in this family are Merchants, but some are manufacturers of silk fabrics could we expect some of them today to emulate there forefathers ?
"Don't envy what people have, emulate what they did to have it."
