Lotus Fibre For Textiles

Lotus, the national flower of India is more than just its beauty. A flower of religious and cultural importance, blooms out of mud. This symbol of purity and knowledge serves many purposes.

The pastel petals, the large green leaves and the brownish stems are of high value. The lotus stems, apart from being nutritious are much appreciated for its fibers.

Delicate, thin strands of fibers are extracted from the lotus stem and woven into fabric with silk-like properties and are thus called “Lotus Silk”.

Lotus fibre is a highly sustainable material that is completely natural and biodegradable.

Unlike many synthetic materials that are used today, lotus fibre does not harm the environment and is completely renewable. Additionally, lotus fibre is incredibly durable and can last for decades without deteriorating.

Lotus fibre is extracted from the stem of the lotus plant and has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its sustainability, versatility and durability.

The lotus plant has a stem that is composed of long, slender fibres that are known for their strength and durability. The process of extracting lotus fibre is a painstaking one that requires a great deal of skill and patience.

Once the fibres have been separated, they are then spun into thread using a spinning wheel or a hand spindle. The resulting thread is then woven into fabric using a traditional loom.

Usage Of lotus and it's fibre in textiles and cosmetics have increased enabling more entrepreneurs to grow in this sector.

Lotus fibre is a unique material that has been used for centuries in different parts of the world.

This natural fibre is incredibly sustainable, durable and versatile, making it an ideal material for a wide range of applications, from clothing to household items to high-end fashion accessories.

Due to the labour-intensive nature of the process, lotus fibre is considered a luxury material and is often more expensive than other textiles.

However, its sustainable and natural properties make it a promising alternative to synthetic fibres in the fashion industry.

Process of Lotus Silk Manufacturing:
1.Lotus Harvesting.
2.Lotus Fiber Extraction.
3.Preparing the Lotus Yarn.
4.Weaving of Lotus fabric.
5.Dyeing of Lotus Fabric, Fibre and Yarns.

The Lotus fabric is the first natural microfiber and probably the most ecological fabric in the world.  The plain-woven pure Lotus fabric is recommended for jackets, one piece and dresses, as it is hard wearing and soft. The airy pure Lotus fabric is recommended for scarves, as it is especially breathable and light.

"The lotus flower blooms most beautifully from the deepest and thickest mud.”
