Is It Gas Pain Or a Heart Problem?

You had a wonderful dinner with family and friends. While relaxing after the meal, a bit of gas prompts you to excuse yourself from the room. Then it cause you: a sharp, jabbing pain. The feeling rises up to your chest, and you have a sour taste in your mouth.
Is it just gas pain in your chest?
Can gas cause chest pain? Is it a heart attack?
Do you take an antacid, or go to your physician?
It’s perfectly normal to pass gas between 10 and 20 times a day. At the same time, it’s understandable to be worried if you feel chest pain after eating a meal.
After all, if it’s gas, aren’t you supposed to feel it in your gut, not near your heart. You may feel pain in your chest if gas has gathered in your stomach or in the left portion of your colon. Gas can become trapped in your digestive tract when you swallow too much air.
While you may be simply feeling the sensation of gas pain in your chest, this pain could also indicate a serious heart issue. Learn how to determine if you or a loved one needs to seek medical attention.
Typical heart attack signs and symptoms include:
Pressure, tightness, pain, or a squeezing or aching sensation in your chest or arms that may spread to your neck, jaw or back
Nausea, indigestion, heartburn or abdominal pain
Shortness of breath
Cold sweat
Fatigue
Lightheadedness or sudden dizziness
Typical Signs and Symptoms of Gas (Heartburn) include:
A burning sensation in the chest that may also involve the upper abdomen.
Usually occurs after eating or while lying down or bending over.
May awaken you from sleep, especially if you have eaten within two hours of going to bed.
Is usually relieved by antacids.
May be accompanied by a sour taste in your mouth especially when you're lying down.
May be accompanied by a small amount of stomach contents rising up into the back of your throat (regurgitation).
There is one more situation which is similar to heart attack: Muscle spasm in your esophagus may cause chest pain similar to that of a heart attack. The pain of a gallbladder attack also can spread to your chest. With gallbladder disease, you may notice nausea and an intense, steady ache in the upper middle or upper right abdomen  especially after a fatty meal. The pain may shift to your shoulders, neck or arms. Again, if you are not sure seek medical attention immediately.
